I like the way you presented the "gas station idea"Being from a small village in Oregon,My first real job was pumping gas at a Chevron station.I learned a tremendous amount about life and learned how to take care of cars.The money I earned was .35 cents an hour,but getting to meet cute girls made it all worth while.Gas station work was one of the only non-agriculture jobs available.I always felt it was safer for the public too because I was trained how to handle the pumps and the public was not.I hope your ideas resurface and the station attendant will somehow be resirected.

You don't recall writing something about "Obama Haters" on my white board? I couldn't figure why you'd pick me to poke sticks at, so if you don't even remember, maybe you were aiming at someone else. I can see clearly that you and I wouldn't get along politically.....but I personally never go out of my way to pick fights over it.

Be glad you were not passing through on I-40 last week. We had several heat-seeking tornados on the prowl, which traveled right down the Interstate! Hard hit was El Reno and the Oklahoma City Metro! It chewed up vehicles on I-40 between the two locations. Luckily, you missed it!

Thanks for your note. I agree with your premise in general as it applies to measuring regulatory conformance - in any regulation. However, if you dig deeper into the red light camera issue you will find it is a fiasco and a fraud. Cities have shortened the yellow duration by 1-2 seconds to increase revenue - with the recommendation of the camera manufacturers - when revenues did not meet desired levels. This is entrapment and in fact increased the number of rear end accidents. Also just read the literature from the manufacturers and it becomes clear that safety is only a canard - the real sales proposition for the manufacturers is NOT safety - it is revenue creation - period - I know because I have been involved in this from the pure safety standpoint.

I don't believe in running red lights. I do think that the green phase should be longer, it takes the line a few sec. to start on each cycle. They also should have slightly longer yellows. I just object to the way the tickets are served and that I can't face my accuser. Red light cameras do improve safety a little, which helps, but they are mostly about the money. One here in Tucson actually helped them catch a serial car thief, an unexpected bonus. Warren {:-)
