more adequate (if not "better") maintenance could avoid many of these things.

Try 12 foot of salt water on any plant and see how long it takes to repair.

NO SHORTAGE OF GASWhile I expect the situation to only improve from here on out, motorists are urged not to hoard gasoline, something that would make the situation much worse. Images of people filling their cars, gas cans, and anything they have- is making this situation much worse than it would otherwise be. There is no gas shortage. There's simply various kinks in the supply chain as power is restored. Demand for gasoline is significant today, and with the kinks in the system, supply is being overwhelmed by an insatiable demand from motorists and consumers. Why haven't the reserves been utilized to assist with keeping the gas stations stocked?

When Sandy came ashore last week, the Bayway Refinery in Linden, N.J. took on 12 feet of salt water, according to Rich Johnson, a spokesman for Phillips 66, the refinery’s parent company. Floodwaters damaged critical equipment, hampering the facility’s ability to pump gasoline into pipelines that are typically accessed by tanker trucks.-------------- Wow, 12 feet of salt water! What a mess.

...if this isn't an EMERGENCY, what is ?...release emergency fuel reserve to EVERYBODY, not just 1st responders...if we're going to wait on pig oil trying to "fix" broken when they can make more money dragging their feet, then the country's screwed...

Damage at Phiilips66 Bayway refinery could prolong northeast's gas crisis, repair the refinery ASAP so gas prices at the pump will Not go up. Instead of exporting all the fuel that Big Oil does, bring some of that fuel to the east coast and supply your own countries population. But will they do that? NO! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
