VA delegate attempting to end VADOT's monthly E-ZPass fee

GasBuddy Blog -- Del. G. Manoli Loupassi from Virginia is on a mission to end the practice of Virginia's Department of Transportation assessing a monthly fee on your E-ZPass.

VADOT started charging a monthly fee of 50 cents per month on regular transponders and $1 for Flex transponders last July. VADOT insists the fee is necessary to cover administration of the E-ZPass program, which allows users with transponders to use an open road tolling system. Other states also charge monthly fees that vary from 75 cents a month in Ohio to as much as $1.50 per month in Maryland. Indiana, New Jersey, and New York charge $1/mo. Pennsylvania assesses $3 per year.

I have an e-zpass unit in my car just to save carrying a lot of cash for tolls. If my floating balance were to be disolved by fee's... I'd stop using the program and be a nuisance when traveling by bringing small change to pay tolls.

Public service announcement: if you travel to a much different time zone, pay close attention to the time that you check into GasBuddy. I didn't pay attention, as my iphone had changed to French time, I assumed my computer had also. Noooooo. It was still back on SB time. So I went from 181 consecutive days to 0. Eeeeeegggggggghhhhhhh. Lost my "wings". My horror and remorse could only be somewhat placated by a couple of chocolate tarts and a double espresso. We all mourn in our own ways...
