and we know that usually industry specialists will try to become regulators. After all, who knows the tricks of the trade better than an insider?

Good riddance of Dennis Egan. There's enough corruption in politics without him adding into it.

If we were to peel back all of the money connections of all elected officials, we would probably be shocked regarding the conflicts of interest we'd find. What impact, though, does this have on gas prices?

Conflicts of interest seems to be the American way to do business. In some cases, it's who you know when it comes to starting up a successful business.

Big Oil corrupting politicians into insipid pocket puppets with the promise of high paying lobbyist positions...hmm, sounds like the U.S. congress...

This should open the eyes of the oil and refinery companies. That what they are doing is just for profit and greed, and they are shutting doors down. Maybe, which I doubt, will bring fuel prices down at the pump, to what they should be under two dollars a gallon, but severely doubt it.
For any nay sayers, under President Clinton, gas was at many times under a dollar a gallon or at highest a dollar and quarter. We are pumping and consuming as residents about the same amount as then due to the mpg on vehicles now days. So tell me, what is the bottom line...profit and greed.

Man, Huffington post really twisted this around. The Mayor was doing a good job, but when there appeared a conflict of interest, he did step down.
Before that, he would always remove himself when a vote was about Silica sand.
