They would have to cut the price a lot more to get me to buy a Malibu. I test drove 3 of them back in 2011, walked off the lot and went to a nearby Ford dealership and bought a 2012 Fusion which in my opinion is a much nicer car. I still have the Fusion and there is no way I would trade it for a Chevy.

GM maybe should first start with quality and then adjust price.

Never thought of the Malibu as an economy car.

Even at that price, people cannot afford a new car.

Big deal, $300-$700. Put another zero behind it. Drove one recently when I was on a trip. It was a nice ride, and good gas mileage.

from the article...
GM on Friday confirmed that it had slashed the Malibu price by $345, $415 and $770 for the LS, LTZ and LT models, respectively. The company cut the price for the Malibu Eco and 2LT models $300.
The basic model is now $22,805, including destination charges.
---- my comment...
Not enough money to make a difference to anyone seriously concerned about price. Very small discount.
And for a GM? No way.

America lost its reputation for quality and value in the 70's out of stupidity and I don't see the grossly overpaid corporate directors getting any smarter or having any incentive to regain Americas reputation.

GM is #1 automaker in U.S. (more cars sold in U.S. than any other automaker in the world) and #2 in the world only because Japan has a closed market and U.S. automakers almost cannot sell in Japan

Auto makers are cutting the price on several models by thousands, goes to show how their greed is out of control by asking so much over cost!

They have to make a profit, but expenses are high. People have to learn to get by on a liveable wage and all will survive, but on inflated wages we all suffer in the end costs.

So, make them with quality and price them accordingly. If that means lower prices for them to sell then I see nothing wrong with that.

GM needs to get its thinking straight. Make a few cars well... not a lot of cars so so. Personally.. I think the Cruze is stealing sales from the Malibu and they can't see it.
