sounds like a good new technology. Will it wipe out my credit card when I shift?

...According to the article: "New technologies usually have caveats, though: 'So far, so good – however there is one important caveat. Strictly speaking, the analysis only applies to static magnetic fields. To transfer the energy of an electric current by creating a magnetic field – and then extract the energy as an electric current at the other end – would involve a magnetic field that changes with time.'"
...and "...we also know that the earth’s magnetic field isn’t static. It changes from day to day and from year to year – and even second to second. The changes are small over small timescales, but in fact the magnetic poles do drift around and the solar wind does perturb the fields and so forth." "Power from Earth’s Magnetic Field"
...Also according to the posted article: "Electric vehicles without energy storage systems, such as trains, can be extremely fast, extremely efficient, and the cheapest overall, provided that the electricity transmission system is economical and efficient. Electric vehicles without batteries would have an unparalleled power to weight ratio (their motors easily weigh less than 100 pounds). And their light weight would provide major handling and safety benefits. These benefits include shorter braking distance, lessened likelihood of rollovers, reduced likelihood of being rear-ended or rear-ending someone (since you will be better able to stop in time before slamming into the person in front of you). Another major benefit is the efficiency improvement gained from reduced weight. Weight is that important!"
...I agree that if a way is found around the fact that earth's magnetic fields are not static and this ends up being possible for single vehicles that would be awesome, however, for trains which have many cars weighing many tons, it may not be quite so feasible as the train would not have enough weight in the engine car to help keep it on the track if it had to stop in the event of an emergency and given that solar flares disrupt and change earth's magnetic fields on a regular basis, said vehicles may need a back-up source of energy in order to maintain momentum following disruption/interference of power from a solar flare.
...Very interesting post BennoBlue, thank you for giving us more fun food for thought! :)

pgerassi Milwaukee "Magnetic induction is tried and true. Its in every transformer by every house. Its in almost all motors."
Almost? Please, describe a single example of an ELECTRIC motor that DOESN'T use magnetic induction. It doesn't matter if they use brushes, are brushless, are stepping motors, are AC or DC, they ALL use magnetic induction. It's a FUNDAMENTAL principle of electric motor operation.

What would this high power energy field do to human cells? Aren't there still concerns with cell phone use and brain tumors?

I feel sure it will work just as well along the coasts as it would inland.

If this idea were too work, then it would provide a lot of help to a lot things which use electricity. That can include other things as well.
