Check the laws where you live. In Illinois, red light cameras are not part of state law. Tickets for them do not count against your driver's license, or against your auto insurance. They exist solely as local ordinances, and have the same legal power as a parking ticket. If you get 10 of them in 2 years, the municipality can come after you for the fines, but that's all. The statute of limitations says that they expire after 2 years. If they are occasional, you can simply ignore them and they'll go away.
Here is a list of laws by state.

Elk Grove Village, IL removed red light cameras when they discovered that they CAUSE accidents because of the strange behavior of the cars resulted in a lot of rear end collisions.

99% of the tickets are written to cars that do a slightly rolling stop instead of an absolutely full stop.

A couple of years ago I got a ticket for having a license plate cover when parking in the city of Chicago, which has many red light cameras. I'm glad the cop didn't notice that my license plate had expired!

So where's there any guarantee that even if you do stay under the speed limit and obey traffic laws, that the automatic cameras won't ticket you anyway?
After all, if everybody obeyed the law, cities would lose a major source of revenue.

Why buy them? If they aren't already against the law, they soon will be.

Motorists Use License Concealing Technologies to Avoid Traffic Cams? As speed and stop light cameras improve, so should the ability to avoid the detecting abilities of those government revenue cameras. Sprays, license plate covers, car waxes, led lights and photo radar jammers are some of the devices used to concel your license plate from that traffic camera. But, going the speed limit and obeying the traffic laws seems like the best way to go, especially if those concealing devices are outlawed by the local government. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!

This article has been an interesting tutorial. The simple solution is to always haul a load of 2x4s, a stack of large flattened boxes, etcetera just as long as a lowered tail gate on a pickup with a red flag or two attached.

Need to outlaw all the cops on the roads, because they are trying to stop ME from speeding and I want the because I'm above the law...
But if they will not remove the cameras, maybe they should set them to flash only over 100 mph, because I only like to drive at 90 mph never 100...
And we need to outlaw the cameras at the banks, because sometimes I need more money and I do not want the cops to see ME...And if we can not remove all the speeding cameras, can someone tell my boss to let ME show up late every day... Because I never leave the house then I should...

Good for Maryland. These cameras are put in place to find offenders of our traffic laws. Who knows if enough tickets make some drivers abide by the law, it may save a life.

If drivers obeyed laws, there would be no need to have to use all of these things. Stop signs, red lights, and speed limits are all there for all of our safety. Sad that people are doing this. If they were the one who had the right of way and some jerk blew through a red light and t-boned them, I bet they'd never have to worry about finding ways to trick red light cameras again. That is if they or others in their car survived the impact. Sorry, but having worked in the ER & seen horrific injuries & more from car wrecks, you may all feel this way.

Traffic cameras would not be so controversial if they were used only to catch real law breakers. When coupled with short-cycle lights and similar effects they amount to entrapment to raise revenue. The sad thing is that most of the revenue goes to the company that runs the camera system, not to the city or state. If you use a pickup truck, drive with the tailgate down, then the rear plate is not visible from a high angle.
And thanks Goofoff, we all wanted to know that.
