Only after a massive and expensive effort to build it. Still not cost effective.

It's good to see that the price of grid electricity is going down somewhere, particularly and expensive area like Central Europe.

To get there takes a huge investment...much of it subsidized by their government and the tax payer...so even though their prices are low, the true cost is hidden in the higher taxes they are paying.

There is still a lot of development/testing to down before solar could really but to work. Solar is useful in small things, like calculators, but even fossil fuels need time and developement for perfection.

This article reads more like an advocacy piece, rather than a supposedly impartial news item.
Solar and wind power have contributions to make, but they are nothing close to a complete energy solution, for "clean energy" or energy independence or anything else.

Cleaner air and lower prices, excellent and awesome! Here in the USA there's sentiment for keeping us slaves to the corrupt, colluded, rampantly speculated, and price manipulated crude distillate market......

Yes! I've been saying it for year: solar is the key. Every sunny state in the US, and even others, would benefit greatly from at least a solar boiler on every private house roof instead of putting the boilers in the basement and spending gas/electricity to heat the water. It can be done, and inexpensively too. Israel has been doing it for decades - it's mandated that every new house is built with solar water boilers. And the boilers are not nearly as expensive as those available in North America.
And from there, just expand it: solar cell roof etc.

data manipulation can make the case that fuel is free - it depends on what costs are included in the calculation - so I am skeptical

A complete change to renewable will require a complete lifestyle change. I don't believe the majority of people are ready. Do you want to schedule you meals around the wind blowing on a sunny day? Or, have to go to a grid connected place to finish the Super Bowl game?

France and Germany are both northern countries where the sun isn't so reliable as in the US. However, if these renewable energy sources can be made to work in Northern Europe they could work here.

This sounds like mindless feel-good lefty speculation. Of course Germany's free to do what it wants. Hopefully they don't end up with frequent power shortages when the sun doesn't shine (you know, they call it night) and the wind doesn't blow.

I have traveled extensively in both countries when I was stationed there after WWII from early 1955 through late 1957. I find it amazing that these two countries are even talking to each other since they seldom agree on anything.

How about solar for cars. On rainy days use fuel, on sunny days use solar
