Seismic tests used in hunt for oil

The Advocate -- WALKER — Crews are conducting seismic tests over a 100-square-mile area of Livingston Parish in search of oil and gas, an official with Strand Energy Co. confirmed Friday.

The work is aimed at locating possible “deeper” deposits, said Scott Airey, a vice president of the Houston firm.

For the most part, the work is separate from the Tuscaloosa Trend, he said.

Airey declined to give more detailed information about the mineral prospects.

People doing the exploration think there is a large, deep pocket of natural gas in the area, said Bobby Font, who signed an agreement with the company before leaving office as mayor of Walker earlier this month.

“We’re hoping it will be where the city’s park lands are,” he said. “A new revenue stream for the city would be nice.”

I was able to locate seismology records back to the 1850's, so I guess it's fairly a fairly proven technology. ;)

Of course seismic tests are used to find oil! This isn't anything I didn't already know.

Hopefully any subsequent oil or gas exploration will not impact the natural beauty and tranquility of Tickfaw State Park.

Seismic tests for oil? Hmm...

A couple of definitions of seismic are
Of or relating to earthquakes or other vibrations of the earth and its crust.
Relating to or denoting geological surveying methods involving vibrations produced artificially by explosions.

We would have figured that drilling would have been the way to find oil.

When the oil is found, may it be brought to market safely and affordably.

Bruno44 ... exactly. They just say things in this way to make it sound like a new procedure. It makes people think "why are they doing this now"? "Maybe the rumors about tremors and earthquakes being caused by fracking are true"! I wonder how much they are being paid by the EPA to run these tests so that their fabricated fairytales will sound true?

Taking all the gas and oil out of the ground and not replacing it with anything is going to cause sink holes.

Guess some cities have spent more than they should have, and now hoping they can pull their chestnuts out of the fire.

For all the politically correct "eco" energy talk all the government wants to do is drill for fossil fuels. It never changes, whenever a hard call is needed government kicks the can down the road to make it the next guy's problem. Obama is no different.
