Clean Technica -- Anticipation is building for Target’s Canadian nationwide opening next year, while the Minneapolis-based retail giant aims to make sure the opening is a sustainability bullseye.
Target is planning for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certification for all of its Canadian stores when it opens in 2013.
The plan involves designing stores which will limit waste, cut greenhouse gasses, and limit water and energy use.
With Target being a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), an organization that strives for LEED certification, officials say they look forward to meeting the environmental sustainability challenge of opening up their Canadian outlets.

surprised to hear Target hasn't expanded the way other US big box stores have. It shows that Target is more cautious and careful w/ its capital.

If they don't serve gas at a better price, then it won't help gas prices.

This is nice for everyone to jump onto the bandwagon to save energy, and in the process ripping off the consumers to do so.

Target supported Republicans. Target gave money to the Republican governor of Wisconsin in his fight to destroy unions.

Now, Target is going environmental? Has target switched over to the commie pinko environut liberal camp?

Well good for Target, I like their stores, they are clean, bright, and their employess friendly. Oh, did I mention that their price are the same as Walmart, and I even made a purchase on line, had it delivered for a little less than Walmart, which I would have to drive to the store to pick it up, after it was shipped there.

Let's hope that all of Target's "sustainability" efforts add up to the savings they envision. From what we understand, some "limited water" applications (like low-flow toilets) are causing some plumbing problems.

We don't see the tie-in between these efforts and gas prices.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving, everyone.
